About Janel
I am passionate about good food – I love eating, cooking, grocery shopping, creating recipes, and trying new things! I also enjoy helping others realize simple steps to take to improve eating habits. For these reasons, my goal as a Registered Dietitian is to help others understand the importance of eating well and leading a healthy lifestyle. The Eat Well with Janel blog is about my life through food. I share culinary creations, recipes, food events, restaurant reviews, and other food and wellness information. I also recap races I compete in, which have included half marathons and a triathlon.
I mention Funk a lot in the blog. He’s my husband, taste-tester, and the person I like to share meals with the most. We love experimenting with new plant-based foods and recipes, and checking out the Boston restaurant scene. People always ask why I nickname him “Funk” when in fact that’s his last name…and now my last name too!
I got my master’s degree from the Nutrition Communication program at Tufts University, and a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Syracuse University. I currently work in corporate wellness where I develop wellness programs for large companies, provide nutrition counseling for employees, and give nutrition presentations relevant to a working professional’s busy life. In addition, I also offer personal and practical nutrition advice for individuals and families, and work as the college dietitian and adjunct professor of nutrition for the Boston Conservatory. A frequent speaker and lecturer, I have been quoted in media including SHAPE, Prevention, Today’s Dietitian, Chicago Tribune, FITNESS Magazine and have spoken at several events. In addition to writing my Eat Well with Janel Blog, I am a regular contributor to the Food Network’s Healthy Eats blog and have authored articles and blog posts for sites such as SuperKidsNutrition.com, POMwonderful.com, and MushroomInfo.com.
